Yes, these are the memoirs of a night owl :::in a Days of Our Lives Voice::: Okay, okay that might be a little melodramatic, but seriously I really USED to be a night owl. Now, well I’m up around the clock. I used to despise the morning, especially getting up for work, and even more in the winter time too. Its like my body is naturally acclimated to staying up late and sleeping in. My mom told me years ago that once you have kids, you never sleep the same again. She was right, more than right! It started when I was pregnant, I knew then that I’d never sleep the same again. Although I no longer have a big ol’ pregnant belly to get in the way of me turning over to sleep in my favorite position, my stomach, I now have a child to tend to in my bed. He’s not always in the bed with us, but 80’% of the night he is. Whether it be to feed, change, or comfort, he’s in the bed. This means mama doesn’t sleep much. Daddy does most of the diaper changes throughout the night, but then I get the handoff to nurse our sweet child back to sleepland.
I seriously don’t even know the difference between midnight and 5 o’clock in the morning, because I’m just up all the time. I’m up late, I’m up early…I’m always up. My mom even said to me, “sleep when he sleeps”. Yeah right! When he’s sleeping, I’m showering, doing housework, cooking, or whatever else needs to be done. I’ve never been a bigger napper, but maybe I need to learn how to be. Probably not gonna happen! I have to be up during the day, my body is programmed to be. If I’m not up, I feel like I’m missing out on everything. Sounds like I’m fighting a losing battle here, huh? I don’t think I can win either way, but I know this is all what comes along with the territory of being a parent.
So yeah, I used to be a night owl, but now I don’t see me catching a break anytime soon on staying up late, waking up early, or sleeping completely through the night. So maybe the title of this post should have been “Memoirs of a New Parent”? – I’m thinking so!
What about you? – Night owl or early riser? Do you prefer to wake up early and get a start on your day or sleep in and get some extra zZzZ’s?
xxoo,
Definitely night owl for me lol. I usually adapt very well to change and just figure things out. With the newborn I usually used one nap to do the personal care and I would clean maybe one room. The other naps I would sleep lol. As they get older they tend to wake up pretty early and the naps taper off. Jr has one nap now during the day. You just have to figure out what works. He wakes still a couple times a night but we are cosleeping still so it’s easy for him to find the breast and just go right back to dreamland 🙂
[…] just pick up and go with a few minutes to spare. Everything takes twice as long, so I have to get up earlier, be more prepared, and make more effort. So fortunately for me, procrastination is […]
